Intimate Lake Superior Wedding | Rey & Becca | Root & Arrow Photography

Rey & Becca decided to get married at Rey’s family’s cabin which was built by his grandpa in the 1920’s. It is tucked in the woods down a dirt road & footsteps away from Lake Superior. Rey’s dad couldn’t travel for their wedding due to a medical issue so they made up a little popsicle stick head of him so he could still be in the photos! I loved how intimate this wedding was- they had about 40 guests & everything was personalized by them from the beautiful readings during their ceremony to the pie toppers that Becca made. During the ceremony, Becca handed Rey an onion to symbolize the poem she read to him. I’ll leave you with that poem because it’s also one of my favorites-

Valentine by Carol Duffy

Not a red rose or a satin heart.

I give you an onion.
It is a moon wrapped in brown paper.
It promises light
like the careful undressing of love.

Here.
It will blind you with tears
like a lover.
It will make your reflection
a wobbling photo of grief.

I am trying to be truthful.

Not a cute card or a kissogram.

I give you an onion.
Its fierce kiss will stay on your lips,
possessive and faithful
as we are,
for as long as we are.

Take it.
Its platinum loops shrink to a wedding-ring,
if you like.

Lethal.
Its scent will cling to your fingers,
cling to your knife.
